As you may have heard, our family member and dear friend, “Charlie” or “Chuck” Wood passed away recently.
As per his wishes, he was a medical tissue donor so that his remains could be helpful in treatments for people going through the same cancer health issues he did.
He did not request any type of funeral or memorial after his death, however those of us still here would like to honor him in some way. A memorial gathering will happen in the future once all the paperwork has been taken care of and we can schedule a time with his wife, Angie to attend. I’ll post that date once we can schedule it.Meanwhile, since there was no funeral home obit, I’ll give him my best thoughts.
Charles Lewis Wood, Jr., 65, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2023 in Dunedin, Florida following an 11-month brave battle with cancer.
He was born on December 6, 1957 in Waynesboro, VA and maintained a posse of fine, lifetime friends made while he resided there until moving south for more adventures.
He was predeceased by his mother, Alice Davis Wood, and his father, Charles Lewis Wood, Sr. and several special aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by his wife, Angie Garza, daughter, Carly Wood, sisters Judy Smith, Diane East (Dale), 4 nephews and 1 niece and the offspring of those youngsters…all loved by him.
He had many opportunities in his work life that led him to different parts of the world and made many friends in these places as well. He was not afraid of diving into new businesses and had much success doing so many times. He was much admired as an entrepreneur more than once in his life.
He enjoyed creating things (like Turtle Island,) and figuring out how to overcome any problems he encountered by never giving up.
He did his best to maintain family and friend contacts even though he was a few or more states away for most of the last 40 years. High school reunions were always a good time!
He enjoyed camping, fishing, BS’ing with friends or strangers, traveling to Mexico and other locations. He never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone he knew if they needed assistance.
He will always have a place in our hearts and memories and for that, we are thankful.
Many thanks to his wife, Angie, the angel for keeping him at their home as long as possible and the staff of AccuCare Hospice Care in Dunedin, FL when the time was eminent. The staff was exceptional and I’m so thankful for everything they did to keep him pain free.
RIP Charlie…We All Love You a Lot!
